Description

 

As a retrospective of the great Expressionist shows the current special exhibition "Böckstiegel" to 3 November 2013 a representative view of the artist's work. It honors its special position and its exceptionally rich work. Böckstiegel is one of the most important artists of the 20th Century from Westphalia. Böckstiegel born in 1889 in Werther at Bielefeld and originated from smallholder conditions. He studied at the arts and crafts school in Bielefeld. During his studies, he developed a passion especially for the great Vincent van Gogh. Böckstiegel work develops in intensive exploration of the avant-garde of his time. In 1913 he began studying at the Art Academy in Dresden, which is interrupted by the use of the First World War. Since the 1920s he lived and worked mainly in Dresden. Böckstiegel died 1951. The exhibition in the convent Schussenried combines works from his estate, which has never been exhibited publicly biggest parts of works from the Kunsthalle Bielefeld and private collections from East Westphalia and southern Germany. A total of 110 works, paintings, drawings, prints, watercolors and sculptures can be seen.
